You may have come across the really solid Edenic word, עצם (etzem), which is to say, ' a bone.' And you may have come across Isaac's ' emetological' analysis that links עצם and the latin ' ostia,' and such. Well, the Mohawk word for 'a bone' is " ohstyen' " (óhs-tyen'). Very suspicious, eh? The little gizmo at the end of ohstyen ' that looks like an opostrophe is supposed to indicate a glottal stop. Anyway, that's the way it's printed in Professor Maracle's book, " One Thousand Useful Mohawk words." Okay, people - am I full of birdseed or do I get a point for this one??
